New Carrollton is a joint Washington Metro and Amtrak station in Prince George's County, Maryland at the eastern end of the Orange Line and planned Purple Line. The Amtrak waiting room is located beneath the Metro station platform. The Amtrak station serves Northeast Regional trains, MARC Penn Line trains with the occasional Vermonter train making a stop here.
The Pennsylvania Railroad planned the station in 1965, and the Penn Central Transportation Company opened the station on January 16, 1969 for Metroliner service. Originally named Capital Beltway, it was renamed to New Carrollton. Washington Metro Service began on November 20, 1978.
